Deputy Minister Le Van Thanh received the European Parliament's Director in charge of Trade and Sustainable Development
(LĐXH)- At the meeting, the two sides discussed a number of issues related to labour in the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).
On October 18, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA), Deputy Minister Le Van Thanh had a meeting with Ms. Dora Correia, Director in charge of Trade and Sustainable Development of the European Parliament.
At the event, Deputy Minister Le Van Thanh highly appreciated the good results achieved after the two sides signed and implemented the EVFTA, contributing to significantly increasing two-way trade turnover.
“Up to now, Vietnam has joined 25 ILO conventions, of which there are 9 out of 10 basic ones. Vietnam has been updating information for two conventions that it has recently acceded to: Convention 98 on collective bargaining and Convention 105 on the abolition of forced labour” - he shared.
The Deputy Minister said that after the National Assembly ratified the accession to Convention 98 and Convention 105 of the International Labor Organization (ILO), the Prime Minister issued action plans to implement these two Conventions, and Vietnam is currently studying a proposal to accede to Convention 87.
Speaking at the meeting and working session, Ms. Dora Correia shared, Vietnam has really made great strides in its efforts to reform labour laws and ensure workers' rights according to the commitments in the EVFTA.
She believes that Vietnam will soon ratify its accession to Convention 87 and pass a Decree regulating worker representative organizations and collective bargaining as planned.
Ms. Dora Correia affirmed to support Vietnam in implementing commitments related to sustainable development, child labor and other commitments in the EVFTA. Thereby helping to further develop trade cooperation between Vietnam and the European Union./.
